In My Father's Footsteps

Being we are all new to this blog and website. As I move closer to the launch of my novel, I wanted to give some insight on my novel. So how did I get the idea for the novel? Well, .......

When talking to someone else who is in the military, we typically start to try and compare where we have been and who we may know in common. This is where this novel idea came from. I was on a deployment during the summer of 2016 when we stopped in Vietnam. It was one of the first times since the pull-out of Saigon that an American ship was ported.

As I walked through the streets, I thought about how eerie it was that many decades earlier my dad was in the same city of Da Nang but on a much less enjoyable trip. At the same time, I was getting emails from him about his "buddy" who he had reconnected with from his Vietnam days. I thought that this was a cool story after decades apart. It reminded me that those who have served together have an unspoken bond that most people cannot understand. This bond has forged us into brothers. We love these people sometimes even more than family (actual) and we would walk through fire to help them if they called.

This is what drove this novel's generation. Sometimes those we serve with understand us and what we went through. They do not judge or try to solve the problem. They are just there to support us. These bonds transcend time and space.

I hope you chose to continue with this blog and share with others as we count down to the launch of the debut novel.
